Japp was his nickname, Charlie was his given name. I don't know how Japp came about, but almost all of us did have other names. He was about 6'4" with a lean build. He was part of the crowd that hung out at the speed shop, gas station.
He owned a "56 Chevy two door for his every day ride. Also he had a hopped up late 50's or early 60's beautiful black Corvette. B.S. Before Stingray! Not bull $ht! Japp was at my pad one night with a few other guys. I offered them cokes, and shots. Japp said you have a coke warm, and some peanuts to put in the bottle? That was his drink.

Japp was the boss of the Maintenance crew of a prestigious local golf course. He made terrific big bucks to keep the greens in order. He hit the golf balls around to check everything was as it should be.
John had his 1964 Nova in the speed shop putting new valve springs and roller rocker arms on it. The left bank was done, so he cleaned the inside of the cast valve covers with Chevrolet name cast on it. No one knew Japp walked down beside the fender, opened a beer, and pitched the pop-off ring toward the trash can close to the fender.
John finished the other valve bank, and put that cover on too. When he fired up the engine, there was a loud clicking noise inside the valve cover, first side John did. I helped John take the cover off again. A mashed aluminum pop off ring was caught in the valve spring. From then on, anyone walking past an engine with something open, no throwing anything to trash can. John and Japp had a good laugh over the misadventure.

Now Japp's Cherry Vette. Running the loop route was mandatory before everyone went racing. Yes, another loop route story. Remember I was running the loop for eight years. It started snowing about 9:00 PM on a friday night. The die hard racers were out with their hot cars., starting about 6:00 PM The cold weather did not matter. We took turns stopping at McDonald's about two miles outside the loop. Had to drive under the golden arches, and grab some supper.
McDuck's was open till 11:00 PM, so there was about 2 inches of snow on everything. I plus a lot of racers put our snow tires on before going out. I was Dumb; not Stupid. It was after my Dad used my car for work, with racing slicks on, and it took him 1 hour to get home for a 15 minute drive. Slicks are bald tires for maximum traction on the roadway. When DRY! I turned slow.
