Mary and I built our dream house in 1984. A Cape Cod with 4 bedrooms, with a place for a fifth. I was an electrical contractor so I wired the house. I made 100 changes in the plans. This was our 3rd house, but the other two were new, but not our plan. We would live here forever. Mary wanted to downsize about 2008. We put the house on the market, but I did not want to sell, I dragged my feet! Every house we looked at that was smaller, the electric bill and taxes were over twice what we paid.
I installed a PPL (our elec co ) money saving system when we built. Our bills then were cheaper than most. Since we stayed we got a Ground Source Heat Pump system. Now ten years later our highest bill is over winter $200 per month. A lot less over summer. The cost was $17,000. Tax savings and rebates lowered it below $10,000. A regular heat pump replacement would have been about $9,000, but our electric bills would have been $100 per month higher.
In the kitchen we put in a pantry instead of a counter, with a breakfast bar beside the sink counter that stuck out 6 feet. I sit at the end sticking out in the kitchen. Mary sits on the side that fastens to the sink counter. When Grandchildren here they sit across from Mary. We got an 18 inch digital LED flat screen DVD player TV against the wall.
When kids were little, we played their favorite DVD while they ate. Now we watch the news at morning, noon, and supper. We only get the Sunday newspaper anymore, must save money. This is Friday Oct. 5, 2018. Monday we were watching the news while eating lunch.
The last 16 years Mary worked worked 9PM to 5AM, and was a charge RN since the day she graduated from Reading Hospital School. All her life, pressure, and running around checking everything. When we were married she delivered babies. When she retired January 1,2018 she pronounced people dead, and loaded them in the van from the Retirement Home. In fact we bought the Astro van from the Chevy dealer the Funeral Home traded it in to get a new one. They do not pick up in the hearse so the other people would not know someone died. Besides the Hearse is known as "Your last ride". I use the astro van for my Charity.
Mary has a lot of trouble falling to sleep yet. She usually falls to sleep about 4 AM, so she usually does not get up till close to 12:00 noon. Monday noon she came down about 11:40 AM, she got her cereal, with fresh berries, and coffee. I was eating beef stew from a can. We buy a lot of canned foods so Mary need not cook so much. We are both 70, we try to make life easier, now.
At 12:00 the news came on. I was in my seat at the end of the bar, Mary on my left side. To see the TV she has to turn head to the left. The story on was about another letter sent to a government employee. Now they check all the mail in suits that protect the workers if poison in envelope. The man reporting was talking to a spokesperson. He asked the spokesperson about the latest letter they found white powder in. He said it was not poison, another letter to scare everybody. The news man said do you have any leads of who sent the letter. Spokesperson said it is long and drug out, checking for finger prints, a lot of help is the person licking the envelope glued flap with their tongue. But this one was a lot easier; the idiot put his return address on the letter.
Mary turned toward me with that look; we both laughed so hard we had tears in our eyes, and almost spit out out food from our mouths. When we told our Daughter and her Husband they had the same reaction. Luckily they finished eating before we got there. Every time I mention it, we still laugh. I realize some people are not too smart, but the idiot was Stupid!
